Janvier

C'est le mois des résolutions.
La première est de reprendre le rythme des défis mensuels de Art Bead Scene. Une oeuvre d'art en inspiration, au moins une perle d'art, pour moi souvent beaucoup plus et un bijou.
Cette année, ils ont publié toutes les inspirations mensuelles dans un calendrier avec des palettes de couleurs et d'autres informations, ce qui m'aidera peut-être à m'organiser.
Janvier donc.
Voici le tableau inspiration du mois:

This is the month when you make resolutions.
My first one would be to keep the rhythm of the monthly Art Bead Scene challenges.
A work of art as inspiration, at least one Art Bead, many more usually for me and a piece of jewelry.
This year, they published a booklet with all the inspirations, color palettes and more. I hope this will help me get organized.
So January.

 Les couleurs, les formes et le thème m'ont tout de suite donner envie de chercher les perles et les combinaisons qui allaient devenir un collier.
Je savais que parmi les pendentifs de Mary Harding je trouverai ce qu'il me fallait et j'avais raison. Ensuite ce sont les couleurs qui m'ont guidé.
J'ai choisi des perles tubes en verre parmi celles rapportées de Bali et d'autres perles en verre recyclées que j'ai nouées sur du cordon ciré rapporté de Thaïlande.
J'aime retrouver mes souvenirs dans mes bijoux.
J'ai ajouté des toupies en pâte polymère de Graceful Willow Beads  ainsi qu'une tige goutte de Samantha Capeling et enfin de la chaîne pour terminer.


The colors, shapes and the theme immediately inspired me and made me go and look for beads and combinations that would become a necklace.
I knew that one of my many Mary Harding pendants would be a perfect match for the inspiration painting. I was right,  then colors guided me.
I chose glass tube beads brought back from our summer vacation in Bali and other recycled glass beads which I knotted on waxed cord from Thailand.
I like my jewelry to carry my memories.
I added some polymer bicones from Graceful Willow Beads, a glass headpin from Samantha Capeling and some chain to finish.

Lundi / Monday

Voilà, c'est lundi.
J'ai fait mes adieux à mon ancien lycée et j'ai fait connaissance avec le nouveau.
J'ai fini de corriger mes copies de bac.
L'année est presque finie.
C'est peut-être l'occasion de consacrer un peu de temps aux perles et à ce blog.
Je vais donc commencer aujourd'hui par le défi mensuel de Art Bead Scene dont voici l'inspiration:

Here we are on monday.
I said goodbye to my old school and I've discovered the new one.
I finished grading the end exam papers.
The school year is almost over.
This maybe the time to spend a little more time with my beads and on this blog.
So I will start today with the Art Bead Scene monthly challenge with this as an inspiration:

J'ai comme d'habitude sélectionné des perles artisanales, j'en ai choisi une et puis j'ai oublié l'oeuvre de l'inspiration. Mais finalement, je trouve qu'il correspondent assez bien.

As usual I selected some Art Beads, chose one but this time forgot about the inspiration. In the end I think it quite fit the picture.

J'ai choisi un pendentif et les charmes assortis de Happy Fish, j'y ai ajouté une perle de Beady Eyed Bunny et des pierres oeil de tigre. Le tout est complèté par de la chaîne fantaisie.

I chose a pendant and some matching charms from Happy Fish, I added a Beady Eyed Bunny polymer clay bead and some tigereye stones. I finished the necklace with some colorful beaded chain.

Tout d'abord le tableau d'inspiration.

First of all the inspiration painting.

Comment est ce que je commence? Comme le principe est d'utiliser au moins une perle d'artisan, la première chose que je fais est de parcourir toutes mes boîtes  de perles d'artisan et de sortir toutes celles qui me semblent convenir. Parfois, je n'ai pas besoin de chercher, je sais immédiatement celle qu'il me faut, parfois j'en sors une dizaine. 

Cette fois-ci, j'en ai choisi un certain nombre, de toutes matières et je les ai laissées sur mon plateau. Parmi elles, quelques unes étaient de Mary Harding, et je me suis souvenue du premier cabochon que j'ai reçu d'elle. C'est celui que j'ai choisi, il est accompagné de perles de verres de Lorna Johnson et Sooz Beads, de perles de céramique de EJR Beads.

How do I start? As you have to use at least one Art Bead, the first thing I do is go through my Art Bead boxes and take out all the ones I think might correspond in shape, color, theme or nothing but that make me think of the inspiration painting. Sometimes I don't even have to look, I know exactly the one I want. Sometimes I take out a lot.

This time, I chose quite a lot, in all shapes and materials and let them be on my bead tray.

Some of them were from Mary Harding, and then I remembered the first cabochon I got from her. This is the one I focused on and chose some glass beads from Lorna Johnston and Sooz Beads and ceramic beads from EJR Beads.

Que faire des perles restant sur mon plateau, les ranger? Peut-être une paire de boucles d'oreilles. A vrai dire, les tiges en verre de Numinosity Beads avaient été les premières sélectionnées, les oiseaux en verre faisaient parti du set de Lorna Johnston utilisé pour les franges du cabochon et les perles en pâte polymère de Beady Eyed Bunny apportent la touche de vert nécessaire.

What should I do next with the remaining beads on my tray, put them away? Or a pair of earrings. To say the truth, the glass head pins from Numinosity Beads were the first I picked, the glass birds are part of the set by Lorna Johnson I used in the fringe of the cabochon and the polymer clay beads from Beady Eyed Bunny were the necessary green touch.

Deux mois sans relever le défi mensuel sur Art Bead Scene, et toutes ces perles qui n'attendent que ça !
Voici donc l'inspiration du mois, c'était mal parti, pas du tout dans mes couleurs, ni dans mes thèmes.

Contrairement à ce que je pensais, j'ai trouvé les éléments à utiliser très rapidement. Là où j'ai eu plus de mal c'est de savoir quoi faire et comment associer ces éléments.
J'ai choisi des tiges de verre et des petits pendants de Numinosity beads, des perles de verre de Glass Bead Art et du fil Wooly Wire pour faire une première paire puis une deuxième paire de boucles d'oreilles car je n'arrivais pas à choisir.

I didn't think I would find my Art Beads so quickly, what was difficult was to find out what to make and how to combine those elements. So I chose wonderful glass headpins and enameled tin pendants from Numinosity Beads, glass beads from Glass Bead Art and some Woolly Wire to make one then another pair of earrings as I could make a choice.

Paris

Je me répète, mais j'ai failli ne pas relever le défi de décembre de Art Bead Scene.
Je m'explique, ce n'était pas une question de temps, ni de thème.
L'inspiration du mois est  une représentation de Paris.

I'm always saying the same thing, I almost did not take this month's Art Bead Scene challenge.
Let me explain, it was not a question of time or theme.
This month's inspiration is a representation of Paris.

Mon problème est que je n'y retrouve pas la ville ou je vis et je ne savais pas comment allier la représentation de Maria Helena Vieira da Silva et la mienne. Je retrouve bien les toits de Paris vus de la fenêtre de mon septième étage sous les toits, il y a longtemps mais les couleurs m'ont déconcerté. Je ne vois pas Paris en pastel, ni en lignes.
C'est New York que je vois en lignes.
Mais je ne pouvais quand même pas laissé passer l'occasion, alors je suis partie des couleurs, que je ne trouve pas parisiennes du tout mais bon. D'ailleurs, le pendentif auquel j'avais pensé lorsque l'inspiration avait été publiée avait été créé par Mary Harding d'après une toile de Frida Kahlo.
Cela a commencé à faire son chemin, un pendentif inspiré d'une de mes peintres favorites, ma ville, il y avait certainement de quoi faire.
Pour moi, c'est quoi Paris? C'est une très belle ville, riche de culture et d'histoire(s) mais ce n'est pas la ville romantique souvent décrite. C'est une ville comme toutes les grandes villes, pleines de contrastes, de beaux quartiers cossus et anciens, des quartiers modernes en construction, la Seine et les canaux. Une multitude de quartiers et de populations différents.
Ce que j'aime c'est son urbanité, les gens, les bâtiments, le mouvement et la nature qui s'invite par ci par là.
J'aimerai également y intégrer sa  proche banlieue, surtout en ce moment. J'habite à la limite nord est de Paris, la dernière station avant la banlieue, cette banlieue ou j'enseigne depuis 20 ans, accessible en métro  et pourtant  étrangère pour beaucoup de parisiens.
Mais je crois que Paris ne restera une grande ville que si elle s'ouvre vers l'extérieur.
Bien, mais comment mettre ça dans un bijou?
Je suis restée simple, j'ai gardé le pendentif de Mary Harding, ajouté trois pierres, et de la chaîne achetée au Portugal.
De grands maillons liés les uns aux autres.


My problem was that I didn't see the city I live in  in Maria Helena Vieira da Silva's representation and I didn't know how to combine my vision and hers.
What I do recognize in the painting are the rooftops I could see in my first apartment under the roofs, but I was put off by the colors. I don't see Paris in pastels or in lines. It's New York I see in vertical lines.
However I could not let that slip by. 
I started from the colors which are not Parisian at all for me but well.
In fact there was a pendant I had immediately associated with the painting when it was published. The odd thing is that it was made by Mary Harding for another monthly challenge with a Frida Kahlo painting as inspiration.
But it started to take me somewhere, my city and a pendant inspired from one of my favorite painters, there definitely was something.
So what is Paris? For me it is a beautiful city, rich of its culture, history and stories but it is not the romantic city I often see mentioned. In fact I don't see cities as romantic. Maybe I don't like romantic. It's a big city like many big cities, full of contrasts. There are quaint and wealthy areas, more modern areas being built. The river and the canals. So many different places and cultures.
What I like is the urban aspect, people, buildings, movement and the nature peeking through.
I'd like to integrate it's close suburbs, especially now.
I live at the north-east limit of the city, last stop before the suburb, where I've been teaching for 20 years. The subway goes there, but it is so far for too many people.
I think Paris will keep on being a great city if it opens to the outside.
But how can I put this into a piece of jewelry?
I kept it simple, I kept Mary Harding's pendant, added three stones and some chain bought in Portugal. Multiple big links.

I couldn't work on Art Bead Scene's October inspiration but I did on November's.

Autumn flowers

J'ai aimé le mélange des couleurs chaudes et froides et j'avais un pendentif d' Erin Prais Hintz de Tesori Trovati, parfait pour ce tableau.

De la soie tressée, de la chaîne et des fleurs en verre pour compléter et voilà ma version du tableau.

I loved the combination of the cold and warm colors and I found the perfect pendant by Erin Prais Hintz from Tesori Trovati.

Some braided silk, chain and glass flowers later, there is my version of the painting.

Septembre

Septembre, la rentrée, tout rentre dans l'ordre, et bien non, encore des contretemps.
Heureusement, tous les mois, Art Bead Scene publie son inspiration du mois et j'en ai profité pour remettre les mains dans les perles.

September, back to work, everything should get back into order, but no, not yet.
Luckily for me, every month, Art Bead Scene publishes its monthly inspiration and it helped me get back to my beads.

J'ai regardé le film, inspiré de la vie de Séraphine Louis et il montre bien le pouvoir de l'art, de la couleur, de la nature pour enchanter et exprimer la vie, car les couleurs éclatantes de ses tableaux éclairent une vie sombre et difficile.

Ce sont mes couleurs, et j'ai eu du mal à faire un choix dans mes perles, j'ai donc fait deux paires de boucles d'oreilles.

Les feuilles et les couleurs m'ont guidée.

Pour la première paire, j'ai choisi des feuilles de Scorched Earth, dans des teintes vives mais douces.

I watched the movie inspired from her life and it shows the power of art, color and nature to enchant and express life. The bright colors in her paintings enlightened her dark and difficult life.

They are my colors and I had a hard time choosing between my Art beads, so I made two pairs of earrings.

I was guided by the leaves and the colors.

For the first pair, I chose Scorched Earth ceramic leaves, in bright and yet soft colors.

For the second pair, I chose lamp work headpins by Elaine Thornton and discs by Jacky Alty in bright colors. I bought them on the group UK Lampwork Showcase.

Et ce fut un défi!
J'ai voulu continuer mes explorations en free form peyote car je trouvais que le tableau s'y prêtait.
J'avais choisi un pendentif de Mary Harding que j'avais précieusement gardé et  autour duquel j'avais tissé et puis voilà…

And it really was a challenge.
I had decided to continue my experiments in free form peyote because I thought it fit the inspiration painting.
I had chosen a Mary Harding pendant I had carefully kept and had woven around it and then...

Après les jurons, la colère et le désespoir, j'ai ramassé les morceaux, pour un travail futur, une broderie ou un autre free form.
Et j'ai essayé de continuer.
J'ai choisi des feuilles en verre de Calisto, une libellule de Greengirl Studios et une tige de Nadin Art Glass.
D'autres perles ont cassées, resistées et voilà ce à quoi je suis arrivée, difficilement.
Peut-être qu'il fallait ces difficultés pour accompagner la souffrance de l'artiste.

After a lot of cursing, anger and despair I took the pieces and put them away for a future work, maybe embroidery or free form.
And I tried to continue.
I chose glass leaves from Calisto, a Greengirl Studios dragonfly and a glass headpin from Nadin Art Glass.
Other beads broke and resisted and this is what I ended up with, with quite a lot of difficulties.
But maybe there had to be those difficulties to accompany the artist's pain.

J'ai laissé passer le mois de janvier et me revoilà pour février et le défi mensuel de Art Bead Scene.

 J'aurai aimé avoir des coquelicots et étonnement je n'en avais pas! Par contre les couleurs du pendentif de Suburban Girl Studio m'ont semblé être un bon point de départ.
Ensuite, j'ai essayé de rendre la délicatesse et la finesse des fleurs et j'ai opté pour de la soie recyclé.
J'ai du mal à travailler avec les tissus et je n'ai pu m'empêcher d'ajouter du  métal et des pierres pour donner un peu de poids.
J'ai donc fait et défait pour arriver à une disposition qui me convienne.

I wished I had poppies and surprisingly I don't. Surprisingly, because in French Coquelicot  is poppy.

But I thought the colors of this ceramic pendant by Suburban Girl Studio would be a good starting point.

Then I tried to make something that would give the feeling of the delicate flowers and I chose some recycled sari silk.

I find it quite difficult to work with fabric so I couldn't help adding some metal and stones to give some weight. 

And I had to do and undo until I found a satisfying arrangement.

Décembre

Le tableau proposé par Art Bead Scene pour le défi du mois m'a intrigué mais comme je n'avais pas de temps, je n'y ai pas beaucoup réfléchi. Avec les vacances, je l'ai regardé à nouveau et ce qui m'a plu c'est la hauteur, le vide, les lignes et le contraste ombre et lumière.


I was intrigued by Art Bead Scene's monthly challenge painting but as I didn't have any time I didn't give it much thought. With the holidays, and some more time, I looked at it again and what I liked was the height, the emptiness, the lines and the dark/light contrast.

J'ai eu du mal à trouver les perles d'art, j'ai tout sorti et finalement j'ai choisi un pendentif Round Rabbit et des petits charms Majoyoal.
Une fois ceux-ci trouvé, quoi faire?
Là encore, en regardant le tableau, ce qui m'attire, c'est cette lampe ou chandelier qui descend et c'est cette idée que j'ai suivi.

I had some trouble finding the art beads, I took everything out and finally chose a Round Rabbit pendant and Majoyoal charms.
That done, what to make?
I went back to the painting. What attracted me was the lamp or chandelier coming down and I followed that idea.

Mais je n'ai pas oublié les autres perles sélectionnées et comme elles s'accordaient avec le collier et la peinture j'en ai fait des boucles d'oreilles.
J'ai utilisé deux perles de Glass Bead Art, deux perles de Helen Jewellery et les charms de Majoyoal.


But I didn't forget about the other chosen beads and as they matched the necklace  and the painting I made a pair of earrings.
I used glass beads from Glass Bead Art and Helen Jewellery. The charms are from Majoyoal.

Octobre

Le tableau d'inspiration du défi mensuel de Art Bead Scene est tombé à pic, parce que justement j'en manquais d'inspiration et de motivation. Je ne pouvais pas résister à ça:

Voilà les couleurs et les formes dont j'avais besoin! Et je m'en suis donnée à coeur joie. 

J'ai choisi des perles en céramique de Happy Fallout pour leurs couleurs, leurs formes et leurs textures. Un pendentif Round Rabbit, des perles en bois recyclées, des graines et un oiseau Bluberribeads pour m'amuser.

Those were the colors and shapes I needed! And I had a blast.

I chose Happy Fallout ceramic beads for their shapes, colors and textures. A Round Rabbit pendant, some recycled wood beads, seed beads and  a Bluberribeads bird to add some more fun.

Tout en délicatesse, des lignes fines, des couleurs atténuées. J'imaginais un long collier fluide et ce n'est pas du tout ce que j'ai fait. J'ai gardé les couleurs douces et poudrées, les lignes, quelques touches de couleurs et voilà:

It is so delicate with its flowing lines, muted colors. I was dreaming of a long flowing necklace and that is not what I finally did. I kept the soft colors, the lines, spots of color and here it is:

Rentrée de vacances, je me suis penchée sur le tableau inspiration du mois de Art Bead Scene.
Le voici

Back from holidays, I started thinking about the inspiration painting from the Art Bead Scene monthly challenge. 
Here it is:

The Indian Rug (or Red Slippers), 1942

J'aime beaucoup la tâche de rouge vif, les arabesques et ce fond bleu/vert/gris. J'aime aussi l'aspect textile du tableau. Alors  comment rendre tout cela? 

J'ai choisi un pendentif de Round Rabbit et un cordon de cuir large pour les couleurs et les arabesques. L'aspect textile, j'ai essayé de le rendre avec le cordon de lin, les morceaux de soie recyclée et la perle tube tissée.
Voici ce que ça donne:

I like the bright red patch, the arabesques, and the blue/green/grey background. I also like the textile aspect of the painting. Next step, how to put all this into jewelry.
First I chose a Round Rabbit ceramic pendant and a piece of thick leather cord, that would do for the colors and the arabesques. I tried to give some textile aspect with linen cord, the pieces of recycled Sari Silk and the bead woven tube.

Juillet / July

Le mois de juillet est bien entamé, mais comme depuis un an à peu près, j'essaye de participer au challenge du mois sur Art Bead Scene. Ce mois-ci, j'ai mis un peu de temps à trouver l'inspiration, puis à mettre cette dernière  en perles.

Voici le tableau du mois. 

We are already quite far into july but, as for about a year now I'm trying to submit something to the Monthly Art Bead Scene Challenge. This month however, I had quite a hard time finding inspiration and then putting that inspiration into beads.

Here is the painting of the month.

Les couleurs ne m'attiraient pas mais le thème si. J'aime les créatures fantastiques, les contes et les histoires. 

En regardant de plus près, j'ai vu ce que j'avais envie d'en faire. Un collier brodé avec une profusion d'éléments et un matériau qui m'attirait mais me faisait un peu peur, le ruban Shibori. 

J'en avais un morceau de la teinte de l'eau, je crois qu'il était fait pour ça. Ensuite, j'ai pensé à cette magnique sirène de Green Girl Studios et au cabochon visage de Earthenwood Studio dont les teintes étaient parfaites. Enfin j'ai ajouté toutes sortes de perles et d'éléments 

I was not attracted by the colors, but I was to the theme. I'm quite partial to fantastic creatures, tales and stories.

When I looked closer, I saw what I wanted to create, an embroidered collar with lots of elements and one kind of material I was attracted to but rather feared, Shibori ribbon.

I had a piece that was quite the color of the water, I think it was destined to be part of that project.

Then I had this wonderful mermaid button from Green Girl Studios, the perfect Earthenwood Studio face cabochon to match and lots of beads and elements.
