Juillet / July

We are already quite far into july but, as for about a year now I'm trying to submit something to the Monthly Art Bead Scene Challenge. This month however, I had quite a hard time finding inspiration and then putting that inspiration into beads.
Here is the painting of the month.

The Little Mermaid, 1911 by Edmund Dulac
Pencil, pen, black ink and watercolour with scratching out on paper

12¼ x 9 7/8 in. (30.8 x 25.2 cm.)

I was not attracted by the colors, but I was to the theme. I'm quite partial to fantastic creatures, tales and stories.
When I looked closer, I saw what I wanted to create, an embroidered collar with lots of elements and one kind of material I was attracted to but rather feared, Shibori ribbon.
I had a piece that was quite the color of the water, I think it was destined to be part of that project.
Then I had this wonderful mermaid button from Green Girl Studios, the perfect Earthenwood Studio face cabochon to match and lots of beads and elements.

  3. This necklace is so incredible! To go from not particularly being inspired by the colors and scared of the ribbon, this has turned out perfectly. I just love it.

  4. Amazing. I like the complexity. You used the shibori ribbon well. I like the way it comes and goes. And such wonderful art beads to discover nestled in the ribbon and seed beads!!!

  5. Don't quite know where to start...so many details to ooh and aah over. It all works so wonderfully together with not one or two art beads, but a heaping portion! Bravo!!

  8. For not knowing what to do you certainly stepped up your game with this one, Miss Karin! I am fascinated by the encrusted treasure in this beautiful neckpiece. It really does mimic the underwater cavern with all the hidden loot! Thank you for participating in the Art Bead Scene Challenge for July! Enjoy the day! Erin
