This month's Repurposing Theme was absolutely perfect.
As I mentioned yesterday, while going through my stash I was almost horrified to see the amount of supplies I had. Not only beads, that would be almost reasonable, but papers, paints, markers, fabrics, yarns, threads, buttons, ribbons and what more...
Several times I have officially decided that I would only use what I had. Not happening.
It looks like for the last few years I hauled to compensate for the lack of making.
At the same time, I've been thinking about the amount of stuff I have accumulated and the need to declutter and consume less, for me and the environment.
Now, how am I going to deal with those contradictions?
Back to our subject.
As I was preparing my beading material for our one week stay in Hyères (South of France) I decided to make a traveling beading box to bead on the go. So I took one of our ordinary plastic containers, I wanted to throw away because it was damaged and simply glued a piece of beading mat inside the cover and some non-slippery material on the bottom. I added those same materials to two small trays I fit inside.
Then, I filled the container with other boxes I wanted to decorate and a bag of nuts, bots and rondelles, waiting in a toolbox.
Before leaving, I used some of them to make a copper, brass and stainless steel necklace.
When I arrived in Hyères, I started decorating a box but it took me much more time than I had planned so I only completed one.
Then I took some of the rondelles, a tiny light bulb and some leather scraps I had bought in Sweden to make a brooch.
I also tried some new glue, and I didn't manage to get all the marks yet. I'll do that back home.
Voilà pour ce qui est terminé.
Maintenant quelques débuts...
That was what I finished.
Now a few beginnings...
Now I'm very curious to hop over to the following blogs and see what everybody repurposed.
Your makes are wonderful. I especially love the lightbulb brooch. It's so charming!
RépondreSupprimerWhat a clever idea with the container! I really like the 'steampunk' necklace and that brooch is something I would definitely wear!
RépondreSupprimerLove your necklace, and what a great recycle for the plastic bottle. Your “new beginnings” look intriguing.
RépondreSupprimerI love all your makes Karin - both practical and beautiful and very imaginative. Many thanks for joining us in this challenge.
RépondreSupprimerGreat ideas Karin! I especially love the way you made the traveling project box - perfect!
RépondreSupprimerReusing that old box by converting it into a traveling bead box with the bead mats is GENIUS!! And, it looks like it worked out for you. I'm totally digging that altered, beaded box you worked on while you traveled. It's makes me smile. And, the rest of your repurposed projects are lovely as well!
RépondreSupprimerWow! you managed to complete so much on a holiday!Me, I would have just bought more stuff. LOL. The washers/nut+bolts necklace is exquisite. The (pill) box is so pretty. I can't wait to see what you do with the spoon.
RépondreSupprimerWow, Karin, all of your creations are so different from one another and each is spectacular and definitely one of a kind! The necklace is something I've never seen before and it's awesome. Alysen
RépondreSupprimerLove your creations, especially the beading box.. that's a fantastic idea!
RépondreSupprimerI love the idea of decorating a jar with beads and I have so many of both. The nuts and bolts necklace is great fun. Well done!
RépondreSupprimerYou have some very clever projects. I really love that necklace and would wear it. the box turned out lovely with the beading and the beading box is perfect for traveling. Thanks for participating in the challenge!
RépondreSupprimerI just love your repurposed container for your traveling beading box. I may have to try and create one of my own. Your necklace is awesome and I can't wait to see what you're going to do with that lovely silver spoon.
RépondreSupprimerI also re-purpose plastic containers to keep my stuff but never thought of decorating them. The idea with the seed beads is just fabulous, especially as I got some cheap stuff that is not good for real beading :) How come I never thought of that!
RépondreSupprimerI love how you repurposed the plastic box into a traveling beading box! The necklace is very steampunk. :) Your decorations on the plastic jar made me facepalm since I've only been thinking of polymer clay for decorating a few containers that I own. (Not possible since the containers would melt in the oven.) The box looks just fabulous, I hope you won't mind me borrowing this idea! :) The brooch is wonderful - the lightbulb made me do a double take at first, but I then thought it's a fantastic addition. :) I like what you've done with the spoon too, looking forward to seeing how you complete the new projects.
RépondreSupprimerWhat fantastic works. The necklace is especially amazing and I love how you've decorated the container.
