Troisième semaine de The Alchemy of Objects, texture.

C'est généralement un des éléments que j'aime bien malmener, mélanger le doux et le dur, le chaud et le froid. Tissus, chaîne, verre, céramique.

J'ai d'abord fabriqué une perle texturée avec des restes. Que j'ai montré sur Instagram et Solange qui fait de magnifiques bijoux sous ne nom de YeeLeN SpiRiT DeSiGnS m'a demandé des détails. 

J'essaie donc quelques explications et un montage vidéo pour montrer comment je les ai faites.

Tout d'abord, il faut du fil de cuivre oxydé en deux tailles, je ne sais plus exactement lesquelles, mais probablement du 1,2  à 1,5 mm pour le support et du 0,6mm pour la décoration. Cela n'a pas beaucoup d'importance, tant que le support est assez solide et ne se tord pas.

Je fais une boucle de chaque côté de la tige, à la taille souhaitée pour faire une perle ou un pendentif.

Puis j'enroule du cordon de soie, n'importe quel textile, ferait l'affaire je pense.

Ensuite j'utilise un durcisseur pour textile, parce que j'avais ça sous la main, de la colle blanche ou textile devrait marcher également. J'imprègne bien les fibres avec un pinceau.

Je suspends pour la nuit et j'attends que mes cocons sèchent.

Une fois secs, je prends du fil de cuivre beaucoup plus fin que j'enroule dans la boucle pour cacher l'extrémité et ensuite je l'enroule autour du cocon en serrant un peu de haut en bas et de bas en haut autant de fois qu'il me plaît et au dernier passage j'ajoute de petites toupies Swarovski.

Third week of The Alchemy of Objects, Texture.

I usually love to use all sorts of materials, different textures that is. I like to mix soft and hard, hot and cold, fabric with chain, metal, glass and ceramic.

So my first idea was to create a textured bead with leftovers I had from projects.

I posted a picture on Instagram and Solange who makes amazing jewelry at YeeLeN SpiRiT DeSiGnS, asked me for some details.  

I tried a little video  and written explanations.

First you need some wire, I used oxidized copper one big gauge, like  14 or 16 to make the base and one thinner 24 or 26 to decorate.

I made a wrapped loop on both sides, I did not really decide on the length of the beads, I used scraps of wire, so they decided for me.

Then I wrapped it with silk cord, very hairy, several times starting from the middle until I liked the combination of colors and thickness.

I then used some textile hardener I had on hand but I guess any white glue would be ok. I used a brush to soak the fibers and let them dry over night.

Once dry I took the thinner wire and wrapped it around the thick wrap and continued wrapping along the bead back and forth and when I wrapped the third time I added some tiny Swarovski bicones, totally randomly of course.

What is important is to keep a tight tension, to shape the bead and finished by wrapping and tucking the ends inside the base loop.
